UK MENTAL HEALTH POLICY

There should be no complacency about ensuring good community care for the mentally ill. The main challenges to the policy of the rundown of the traditional psychiatric hospital are the concern that homelessness is being increased among the mentally ill and the fear of public safety because of homicides by psychiatric patients.

Over recent years campaigners against community care have shifted their attack onto the issue of public safety. The UK Government is implementing a major review of mental health services and concern about public safety has driven the review.
